Welcome to My New Blog

I have created this blog as a companion to my YouTube channel fortheloveofwisdom. I started by looking into which blog site would be the best place to host this blog, and my choice became much easier when I realized that fortheloveofwisdom.wordpress.comfortheloveofwisdom.blogspot.com, and even 4theloveofwisdom.blogspot.com were all taken. So I went with fortheloveofwisdom.blog.com.  This is a better URL than I could have gotten from any other blogging site, and so far blog.com looks like it has the features I want. I can customize the appearance, which is important to me, and I am currently working on that. It looks like I can also upload videos if I choose to.  And the blog editor appears to have everything it should have.

As an update to what I wrote above, this blog has moved to http://fortheloveofwisdom.net/, where, thanks to running WordPress software on my own site, I can use plugins to greatly expand what WordPress can do. This site should be much faster and more reliable than the original blog.com site. Since this site includes many features that the old blog does not, new content will show up only here. The old site should be considered abandoned. It has stayed up to direct people here who may still come across the old URL somewhere, but it is not maintained, and it could go away.

Although I can upload videos, I have a limited amount of space for them, and they can’t be bigger than 25 MB, which is smaller than most of my videos anyway. And even if it weren’t for those restrictions, it takes a long time to upload a video. So I will just be embedding YouTube videos on my pages.

Custom CSS editing is not available unless I pay for it. While it would be nice to use it to touch things up better, I don’t want to pay for it, and the blog already looks good enough without it. The important thing is that I was able to add a custom background and a custom header that gives this blog a similar look to my YouTube channel.

I’m happy that this blog lets me have categories. I have set up categories matching my playlists on YouTube. The thought bubbles on the right illustrate the categories. Each is named for the second word in the thought bubble.

And I’m glad that I can add social sharing links at the bottom of each blog post.

Overall, it looks like blog.com was a good choice. It can do things I haven’t been able to do with my blogspot blog, and there are some indications it is using the same software as WordPress, which has been touted as one of the best.
